ICD-10 continues to morph healthcare operations. We’ve seen the increased demand for coding professionals to include an additional 23% demand on top of a 30% deficit before ICD-10 was even considered (see State of HIM report). Now an in-depth article has been made available through the Online Research Journal that provides a great deal of information on the growth of the Clinical Documentation Specialist (CDS) profession.
A few interesting statistics from the article include:
- A Burning Glass Technologies report showed an increase in CDS jobs by 223% between 2007 and 2011
- 2/3 of hospitals have already implemented a CDI program
- 41% of those who have not implemented a CDI program plan to by 2014
